Learn how to get more waves

1. First of all, don't sit in the middle of the pack. Seems obvious, but some people head straight for the crowd because that's where they think the waves are. Don't conform to that herd mentality. When there are peaks breaking everywhere, find holes in the crowd -- your own spot in the lineup. At a pointbreak I usually try and sit on the shoulder to catch swingers or wait for people to either fall or not make the section. Or you could sit out the back -- you may have to paddle a little harder but it'll pay off when you've got priority. Sitting on the inside is another option and sometimes catching smaller waves is better than no waves at all.

2. Be aggressive. Don't let anyone intimidate you. Have respect for the other surfers and hopefully they'll respect you. But at the same time, don't be afraid to fight for that wave you want, even if someone is jocking you. Become a better paddler by getting out in the water as much as possible and staying in shape. When you can stay out longer than anyone else, you're bound to get more waves.

3. Find your own special surf spot. That doesn't mean you can't surf Lowers anymore but I've found that I have the most fun at the spot where no one's out; I can catch all the waves I want, even if it's my local closeout beachbreak. Keep your eye on all the spots in your town; sometimes one will start turning on and you can be on it before the word gets out.

4. When you do find that spot, keep it on the down low! You may want to rave about your last session and how much you were ripping with no one around but just don't.
resumo: não precisa de resumo hahaha

5. Pay constant attention to the lineup and upcoming sets that could be approaching. It'll give you a one up on the rest of the crowd who may be distracted. If you're stealth enough, you'll be in position way before those guys who are goofing off or are treating the session like social hour.

6. Watch and learn. Pay attention to the waves, figure out where it's most consistant and use a landmark on the beach to line up with. Observe the people who are getting a lot of waves and take note of where they're sitting.

7. Remember Kindergarten? Learn how to take turns. If you're already catching waves and it's pretty consistent, there's usually a rotation. Don't take every wave that comes through and people will probably return the favor.

8. Save your energy. Don't run out of juice chasing every little bump that comes through the lineup. Have good wave selection and you'll be ready when that perfect nugget comes along.
resumo: não te canses desnecessáriamente! assim perdes as melhores....

9. Look like you know what you're doing. People are quick to judge other surfers by the way they're carrying themselves in the lineup and how much confidence they're exuding. I'm not saying you should act like you own the place (please don't) but it could prevent you from losing potential waves. People might try and snake you if they think you can't catch the wave or that you'll just blow it. resumo: se não estás confiante, trata de fingir! senão vais ser sempre droppinada...

10. On the other hand, if all else fails, just play dirty. Seek out the kook and paddle around or hop him. As long as no one gets physically hurt, what difference does it make? He would've just gone straight, anyway. Just don't make it an ongoing habit and try really hard not to do it to that local ripper guy you see everyday with 20 of his friends. It could end badly.
resumo: se tudo falhar... "joga sujo!" hahaha

11. And as cheesy as it might sound: You may be able to get away with more than guys can. Ninety-nine percent of the time, you won't get beaten up; being blessed with not having that Y chromosome will most likely save you from having to take it to the beach, unless you piss off another girl.
